Never one to conform with conservatism, Yasmin Sewell has built a career on fresh ideas and a desire to do the not-yet-done. Launching her own luxury fashion boutique Yasmin Cho in London at age 22, Sewell’s career was kick-started, and she was soon known for her ability to spot promising new talent: credited for launching designers by the likes of Rick Owens and Pierre Hardy. With her reputation strongly established, an invitation in 2005 from Mrs. Joan Burnstein to become Buying Director for London luxury stalwart Browns saw Sewell turn her hand to the retail institution, reimagining its vision and direction, and transforming it into a store with contemporary relevance and plentiful scope for development and future success. Christopher Kane, Meadham Kirchhoff, Nicholas Kirkwood, Roksanda Ilincic and Marios Schwab were all among the new designer discoveries made by Sewell during this period, who was also instrumental in Acne’s firm establishment in the European market. Drawing from her history of varied industry experience, 2008 marked the launch of Yasmin Sewell Ltd. – the namesake fashion, retail and creative consultancy that soon saw Sewell stepping in as Chief Creative Consultant on Liberty of London’s Renaissance Project. Demonstrating the full services of her new business, Sewell refreshed the identity of the old London icon, injecting its offering with 85 new brands, entirely redesigning the historical building’s three floors, and as a result, taking the retailer into profit for the first time in over a decade. Still unperturbed by convention, today Yasmin Sewell Ltd. continues to be internationally-recognised for its unique approach and transformative services offered to brands and businesses at every level. As the face of the company, Sewell is globally acknowledged for her signature aesthetic, and is lauded for her commitment to new talent, sitting on the NEWGEN panel, and being awarded Young Australian Achiever of the Year in 2012.
Jemma DyasSenior Consultant & Forecaster
As Senior Consultant and Forecaster, Jemma Dyas joined Yasmin Sewell Ltd in September 2011 with eight years buying experience and has quickly become a driving force within this dynamic consultancy. Managing a varied portfolio of clients, Dyas specialises in up-and-coming designers, contemporary brands and online retail - a growing area of the market where she has particular expertise in creating truly unique online stores. At Yasmin Sewell Ltd, Dyas also spearheads the consultancy's mentoring program, curates the talent advisory blog 'Roll the Dyas' and oversees trend direction, future forecasting and product development for a range of international clients.
Having previously worked across a range of retail concepts from Browns to ASOS, Dyas has a proven track record for unearthing design talent, bolstering revenue and introducing new customers to existing retail markets. After three years in a multi-label buying environment at Selfridges, in 2008 Dyas followed Founder Yasmin Sewell's path and moved to Browns where she become Head Buyer at the age of 27. Working across the Browns Focus store, Browns Sloane Street and Brown's online, Dyas discovered a new generation of designers including Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou and David Koma. She would also launch the Browns Focus label, partnering Browns with art and fashion graduates on prints and increasing revenue by consistent double-digit growth over the three years under her direction.
Recognising the exponential growth of online, in 2010 Dyas joined e-commerce juggernaut ASOS launching ASOS' Marketplace - a micro site that works with fledgling brands to sell their designs through the e-tailer. She then went on to revamp ASOS' womenswear buy, introducing additional high-end and niche brands such as Rag & Bone, Preen Line, Zadig & Voltaire and J Brand, as well as London-based talent like Hermione De Paula and Ashish. Dyas was also directly responsible for adding a more designer look and feel to this part of the site, a role that has since been extended to a close consultancy relationship since joining Yasmin Sewell Ltd.
As a respected voice within the London fashion scene, Dyas has a frequent presence in the press, being regularly quoted on everything from seasonal trends to the latest fashion talent. She was recently voted as the most influential person in the emerging fashion category in the prestigious Independent newspaper & Hospital Club's 100 awards.
