Heading up one of the world's leading retail consultancies, fashion visionary Yasmin Sewell continues to redefine global brand management, cutting-edge retail concepts and the perennial search for the next big thing at her London-based retail, lifestyle and fashion consultancy Yasmin Sewell Ltd.
With a unique understanding of the intellectual and progressive nature of fashion, paired with a firm grip on the commercial reality of running a fashion business, Sewell is somewhat of a rarity in the fashion world, expertly uniting creativity with commerce. Offering advisory services to luxury brands, emerging designers and mass retailers, this full-service agency, founded in 2008, consults on fashion and beauty product direction, brand development, trend forecasting, events and marketing strategies and e-commerce retailing. Specialising in both the creative direction and inventory for bespoke retail ventures, Sewell and her dynamic team are renowned for implementing their complete retail concepts for major department stores, shopping centres, destination boutiques, five star hotels and e-tailers.
Beginning her career at Harper's BAZAAR in New York, at 22 Sewell moved into retail and opened her own London store Yasmin Cho - a revolutionary retail concept that was listed as one of the world's five most influential boutiques, after just 12 months of trading. At Yasmin Cho, Sewell was at the forefront of 90's fashion, launching the careers of this generation's most avant-garde design talent including Rick Owens and Pierre Hardy. The store represented a new era for cutting-edge fashion retailing, previewing the decade's hottest labels and attracting an impressive celebrity clientele.
This quick success was well noted by the industry and in 2005 Sewell was approached by Mrs. Joan Burstein to take the helm of the world famous Browns. During her time as Buying Director, she headed up Browns, Browns Focus and Browns online, discovering brands such as Christopher Kane, Meadham Kirchhoff, Nicholas Kirkwood, Roksanda Ilincic, Marios Schwab and Acne. Sewell personally pioneered Acne's push into the European market and played a pivotal role in its colossal success.
Having worked across all areas of the industry from magazines to retailing, in 2008 Sewell founded her namesake consultancy. The agency's first major project was the fully-fledged reinvention of London's iconic Liberty department store. As Chief Creative Consultant Sewell redesigned the landmark building's three floors, created destination shopping concepts, introduced over 85 new labels, and forged visionary collaborations with brands ranging from Hermès to Target and Manolo Blahnik. Within one year of the launch of 'The Renaissance Project', Liberty was in double-digit growth and in 2010 reported a further 40% increase in turnover, taking the store into profit for the first time in over a decade.
Reputed for championing and discovering new design talent, Sewell now sits on the NEWGEN panel, is a British Fashion Council advisor, British Fashion Awards judge and in January 2012 received the acclaimed 'Young Australian Achiever of the Year in the UK' award.
As a retail consultant, creative advisor and trend forecaster, Sewell continues to directly influence the fashion purchases of consumers the world over.
Jemma DyasSenior Consultant & Forecaster
As Senior Consultant and Forecaster, Jemma Dyas joined Yasmin Sewell Ltd in September 2011 with eight years buying experience and has quickly become a driving force within this dynamic consultancy. Managing a varied portfolio of clients, Dyas specialises in up-and-coming designers, contemporary brands and online retail - a growing area of the market where she has particular expertise in creating truly unique online stores. At Yasmin Sewell Ltd, Dyas also spearheads the consultancy's mentoring program, curates the talent advisory blog 'Roll the Dyas' and oversees trend direction, future forecasting and product development for a range of international clients.
Having previously worked across a range of retail concepts from Browns to ASOS, Dyas has a proven track record for unearthing design talent, bolstering revenue and introducing new customers to existing retail markets. After three years in a multi-label buying environment at Selfridges, in 2008 Dyas followed Founder Yasmin Sewell's path and moved to Browns where she become Head Buyer at the age of 27. Working across the Browns Focus store, Browns Sloane Street and Brown's online, Dyas discovered a new generation of designers including Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou and David Koma. She would also launch the Browns Focus label, partnering Browns with art and fashion graduates on prints and increasing revenue by consistent double-digit growth over the three years under her direction.
Recognising the exponential growth of online, in 2010 Dyas joined e-commerce juggernaut ASOS launching ASOS' Marketplace - a micro site that works with fledgling brands to sell their designs through the e-tailer. She then went on to revamp ASOS' womenswear buy, introducing additional high-end and niche brands such as Rag & Bone, Preen Line, Zadig & Voltaire and J Brand, as well as London-based talent like Hermione De Paula and Ashish. Dyas was also directly responsible for adding a more designer look and feel to this part of the site, a role that has since been extended to a close consultancy relationship since joining Yasmin Sewell Ltd.
As a respected voice within the London fashion scene, Dyas has a frequent presence in the press, being regularly quoted on everything from seasonal trends to the latest fashion talent. She was recently voted as the most influential person in the emerging fashion category in the prestigious Independent newspaper & Hospital Club's 100 awards.
